Strip Poker

22 Oct

Oh…. I’m working hard….fighting traffic as thick as Mississippi mud dried in Texas heat.  I really dislike the fatigue that traffic brings.

Ever come home to you house and wander around looking for someone, but it’s just you there.  Disappointed, you put on music and lay on your bed struggling to make out the shapes that are on your ceiling; or follow your ceiling fan’s rotations with your eyes till you get dizzy and think that you should seek help.

I have stacks of things to do.  Mainly write thank you cards.  I’ve read that the time given to send out thank you cards for ones wedding is a year.  I’ve got a month left to finish.  Jeeze, think I can do it?

It was cold yesterday; I got excited and wore a red velvet blazer, a long sleeved shirt and an undershirt.  By 1pm it looked as though i had lost in strip poker – as i had removed most of my layers suffering in Austin traffic.

Sorry I missed you Frank.  Perhaps we sludged passed each other on Lamar and didn’t realize it.

The Science of Sleep

10 Oct

Yesterday at 4:20 I went with Peter, Glen, Seth, Frank and Ann to see The Science of Sleep at the South Austin Alamo Draft House.

It was so cold in the theatre that it made the movie feel more intense.  It had lots of ‘cold’ scenes. It took me a while to finally warm up.

It was a strange movie, very different from Eternal Sunshine, yet it did provoke a lot of thought.

Thoughts that Peter started to share with me last night in bed, but I fell asleep.  I remember he was talking and I was trying so hard to stay awake.  but I had to sleep.  Sleep was pulling me in.

Sleep.  The Science of sleep.

Nanny

1 Oct

We had a good time in Dallas.  Thanks Jon and Des for hosting us.  you guys are cool cats.

Dallas is a huge city and makes me happy to live in Austin.  Although we were stuck in traffic for two hours on the way home. Just 30 miles away from Austin.

But, Peter and I talked the entire time, the question of choice for us …..  what is something that we don’t know about each other.  a lot of absurd and random information came out mostly about our strange and crazy childhoods.

Even if peter had crushes on  every single one of his babysitters….I still love him and he still loves me (especially when I’m his nanny.) :)

InDesign? Not So Much.

13 Mar

Wow.  What a first day.  I got my butt kicked by InDesign pros!  Today was my initial day working for PRG in their Art and Production department.  I was assigned a job converting a PA aptitude test from Quark to InDesign.  I had about 15 minutes explanation from my “trainer” and then they left me to it.

Needless to say, I had a rough go of it initially and all I wanted to do was call Peter and confess my need for moral support.  But by the end of the day, I got it down.  Or so I hope.  I believe that tomorrow will be better.  I was encouraged by my supervisor that the first days or so are rough generally; I smiled and nodded my head in agreement.

Ironic that it’s artists that learn these programs and the programs are sooo sooo mathematical and require huge concentration to detail.  I guess being in production is different than being in design (indesign – get it)

All in all, this job is a huge blessing and in working there the next 2.5 weeks will cover most if not all our expenses for this trip to Israel.  So I consider it a gift  – and believe that by God’s grace I will kick some InDesign butt!  :)

*Editors note: I got fired a few days later, for not kicking InDesign butt.  :(  I’m still reliving it, and feel like poo poo when I think about it.
