Three weeks ago, today, I gave birth to my son. He’s asleep now in my room. After a night of non-stop nursing and crying, we’re all exhausted. I took a shower this morning and had Peter bring me Noah. He immediately calmed down and fell fast asleep in my arms. Skin to skin, cradled against my chest, warm water washing over his tiny body. A quiet moment of relief for all of us. I wondered if it reminded him of the womb. It’s the still moments like these that bring relief to the blistery raw moments of the day where his crying is unquenchable. Continue reading
Announcing Noah Luke
14 AprMy son arrived yesterday, Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 6:14 pm. After approximately four hours of labor! He was born in the water. The last hour of his labor was the most intense hour of my life. Ever. No question. I was raging through labor and was convinced that at 5:30 when we arrived at Inanna birth center that I was certainly in transition. When Jean, my midwife checked me she let me know I was 4cm. I was freaking out inside my head because I had NO idea how I would manage through the rest of labor with contractions that were blowing me to smithereens like these were. They were right on top of each other, more intense than anything I experienced while in my ten hours of labor with Zoe, they were more than a minute long, and barreling through my body at less than a minute apart. They truly made me question my own sanity at choosing natural birth. Needless to say, and to keep it brief today (I’ll write the whole story later), 40 minutes later I was holding my son in my arms. Hardest hour of my life, but worth it. Worth it all.
Is There A Difference?
29 Mar“You’re all belly.” I keep getting that this time around. I haven’t thought too much about how I’ve been carrying this pregnancy, but lately with the slew of recent comments, from strangers and friends alike and then tonight, when my doula friend, Marissa, mentioned my basketball belly, she asked me how I carried with Zoe and I couldn’t really remember. So I went back and looked at old pictures and found one of me pregnant with Zoe at almost the same stage I am now. Maybe there’s truth in the old wives tale about boys carrying all up front. Either way I’ll let you decide, I’m not certain I see a huge difference, other than the fact that I’ve gained less weight this pregnancy than with my first. Here are pics of me at 37.5 weeks pregnant with my first and 37.4 weeks pregnant with my current.
My Baby Shower
26 Mar

Sweet babies who attended my shower with their moms. I was the doula for 3 of these babies moms, the birth assistant at 2 of these babies births, & taught childbirth classes to the other moms.
My shower was wonderful! I had a blast and felt so much love and community surrounding me. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped me prepare for my son’s arrival. Also a HUGE shout out to Marissa (my wonderful doula friend), Lindy (a dear friend), Jean and Betty (my Inanna midwives) for hosting it. It’s not often that I’ve received such ROYAL treatment and I will forever remember this day as special and FUN! Thank you! Continue reading
