As I spend time thinking about what my second labor will look like, I’m reflecting a lot on my first one. I was nine days past due, my labor was ten hours, start to finish. Zoe was OP – which gave me a good dose of back labor (I had bruises the next day from all the counter pressure I asked my husband to apply to my back with a rolling-pin.) I pushed for 27 minutes and my daughter graced me with a compound presentation that gave me a second degree tear on my labia. Nice, huh. And yes, I just said “my labia” on the world-wide inter-webs.

Birth skirt available in size medium with lily print only.
In preparation for labor number two, I’m thinking about some of the changes I want with my second one. There aren’t many but I will have a doula present and possibly a birth photographer, I’ll visit a chiropractor as much as I can my third trimester and I will give some thought to what I will labor in – rather than wearing just what I have on the moment my contractions start, which was, with Zoe, a sundress and an old white tank top.
By the time my labor kicked into high gear, the sundress was rumpled on the floor, I had on a pair of very un-sexy Depends, socks and my grubby white tank. I was looking about as unglorious as can be with mascara smudges under my eyes and a bird’s nest for hair. The truth is, in the moment, I didn’t care, the look actually went really nicely with my rocking on all fours and my low moose-like bellowing, but today, looking at the pictures – oh boy…
In celebration of that whole “I’m busy birthing a baby look,” I’m giving away a very cool birthing skirt. It is a brand spanking new Binsi Prima Mama Birth Skirt, size medium in the lily print. The skirt is really, really pretty. I’m almost too attached to it to give it away! This A line skirt has a draw string and slits up the side with snaps all the way down the front, for ease of removal. It was designed by a doula and mother with laboring women in mind! See further description below.

I wish I had one of these last time! I’m not pregnant so maybe I can’t enter, but if I have another baby he/she will most definitely be born at home. The momma I want to win this for will be birthing at home, too. :)
Oh, good point Heather! You don’t need to be pregnant to enter. You can enter for a friend, family member or on behalf of your doula client, whomever!
I have to say, I am glad to hear i am not the only one who had a hard time with tears. I was 5 days late with my son and when I finally went into labor, I went fast. 4 hours from first contraction to him being born. But one small(or should I say big) problem, I tore 4th degree. I had wanted to do natural birth with no epidural, which I did and I am proud of it. But after he was born at 9 lbs 9 oz and me with a 4th degree tear, both inside to my cervix, up to my cloritis and through my rectrum I was in for a 4 hour surgery to reconstruct my lower region. Then a 5 day hospital stay with 2 blood transfusions, liquid morphin and pain like nothing else for the next few months.
I do plan to have another and yes, to everyones amazement, I want to have it natural, no epidural and AT HOME. I know I can do it, and even through all the tears and pain, I want to try it again.
Tammy, good for you for going for another natural birth. Women are resilient and strong! Here’s an interesting article about caring for your perineum: http://birthfaith.org/nutrition/protecting-your-perineum-from-the-inside-out
I would LOVE one of these! I’m due in two months and will be birthing at All About Babies Birth Center in Argyle.
I LOVE that birth center. So beautiful!!!
I am so excited about my next birth experience! I plan to birth at HOME :) I experienced a C-section with my first, VBAC in a hospital with my second, and now my third, a precious baby girl, will be welcomed into the world at our home :) YAHOO!
I love meeting mommas that have had success stories! It helps me know that I can do it again! :)
I plan to have my next one at home. And no, Joyous, I am not pregnant. This time we are not catching it from you guys.
Too bad.

I don’t know where I want to have my next one. I’m just glad I can have a next one. Take THAT cancer!
Yay for more babies…Cancer can suck it! Love you, Bethany!
I wish you’d had this give-away 4mo ago;) I made one. Wore it. loved it. I actually made two. I was going to do a give-away myself with the one I didn’t use.
I’ll blog it today…at some point;)
I’ll probably enter your giveaway, since I’m gonna wish I had something like this for my next birth!
I’m birthing my first at a freestanding birth center in Indianapolis around New Year’s. I’ve already got a top I planned on wearing for the birth (or not, depending how I feel…), but couldn’t justify the cost of a Binsi skirt, so wasn’t sure what I was going to do. This is a great giveaway!
My Labor was 15hr. Walked around in a non-pregnancy long dress for the begining. Then changed into a moo-moo (somewhat comfortable). But when I got in the tub I was stark naked. Would have liked to labor in something more comfortable though….
Hey Patricia, be sure to tell me where your birthing your next baby in order to make the comment “count.” Love you, girl!
Hallandale Birthing center in FL

OMG (yeah, I just said OMG) I want this skirt! It’s so pretty and sweet AND practical – what a weird but welcome combo! I am birthing at Inanna in about 2 1/2 weeks – yikes! I’m posting this on FB and I’m following your blog now! Didn’t know you had a blog – can’t wait to read more!
Thanks Joy!
We plan to have our baby at Inanna Birthing Center. I hadn’t thought of what I would wear (or start off wearing) during birth. Maybe this skirt!
I had my eye on this skirt back w/baby #4….now pregnant and due in early feb w/#5 I’d kill for one of these!
My midwife passed this blog on to me! thanks!!!
We’ll be birthing in the birthing center again! I can’t say enough wonderful things about the experience I had there! Can’t wait! (well sort of hahaz)
Thanks for commenting, and wow, you’ve got a great blog!
I’m planning on birthing at Inanna Birthing Center in Denton, TX. The ladies have been so good to me during my prenatal care. Since this is my first “natural birth”, I’m thankful for their knowledge and encouragement that “I can do this!”
The skirt is a great idea! I was concerned about modesty during the birthing process. I may have to give this a try, even if I don’t win. :)
I will be birthing at home with my midwife from Gentle Beginnings Birth Center.
I am planning on having a water birth, in a hospital, in Belgium!
Got a winner yet? :)
